The Mount Morris Library held a digital photography workshop in March of 2025. It was hosted by local photographers Thomas and Barb Côté. After learning about the basics of digital photography, participants were tasked with walking down Main Street, taking photos, and applying what they learned. Their photos can be found below. Kristina and Ellie In the Artisan Alley. Mystery: what is getting their attention? I took this photo because of the YALE bag. Tom said he will be able to say he taught at a student of Yale. We are all so happy for Ellie going to Yale.Mount Morris Library Digital Photo Workshop Barbara and Thomas Côté are deciding what else to teach us.ME It definitely works better if somebody else is taking the photo. Perfect light on that day.Kristina I suspect Kristina knew already every thing that was talked about today! A day with no sun was perfect for photos, as Thomas told us.Selfie Concentrating! No change in the filter necessary.Walking Toward Opportunities of Good Photos I didn’t crop the heads, no, I just took the feet.Digital Photography Workshop with Thomas and Barbara Côté Let’s see how it looks in black and white.Me and the Floral Mural I am trying to make it appear that the petals are my hair. May be my arms aren’t long enough, but I like the colors.Teacher and Student Thomas was thrilled to have Ellie with us, now he will be able to say he taught someone from Yale University.

This photo is a nature wall mural located in the Artisan Alleyway in Mount Morris, NY. It depicts a monarch butterfly visiting a bunch of flowers. Initially, the vibrant colors caught my eye, however, the longer I studied the mural, the more I noticed a story within the painting. By using a diagonal composition, I was able to place the butterfly in the top left-hand corner of the photo. Since the butterfly was painted as it was landing on a flower, I managed to frame the rest of the image with the other flowers below the butterfly, making it appear as if the butterfly had already visited the sunflower and the daisy. This composition allows the viewer to imagine that the butterfly will keep flying upwards and off the page, since the direction of the flowers appears to be moving upwards in a diagonal line. This photo is of an Easter display out front of one of our local shops here on Main Street. This particular display caught my attention due to it’s old fashioned look in the middle of a modern street. This mural is located on the side of one of the main buildings on Main Street and honors all of our first responders. The blurring of the background draws attention to the importance of the mural and all that our first responders do for our little community.
